SA(TEC): Critical Surveillance, Electronic Monitoring, & E-Carceration
Principal Investigator
Reed, Jacob

Abstract

SA(TEC) aims to address critical surveillance practices that promote e-carceration via electronic monitoring (EM) technologies. This project seeks to combine the study of criminology, critical surveillance, and computer programming (C, Python, and JavaScript) to push for the reduction of electronic monitoring and mass surveillance at the state and local levels. At present, I am developing my software programming fundamentals to create systems, tools, or applications, that can address the potential social, legal, and ethical issues related to e-carceration and electronic monitoring. I will use city and state level EM, surveillance, and pre-trial release data to address concerns of e-carcaration in the Midwest.
